Our Expertise

CGL, in collaboration with HDR and Architects Incorporated, provided planning, programming, and staffing operations services for a groundbreaking new female prison facility. This state-of-the-art facility will revolutionize the way South Dakota approaches incarceration and rehabilitation.

By replacing the existing facility, the goal is to ensure safer management by reducing the capacity of the women’s prison in Pierre to a manageable level, while anticipating future needs by creating ample space for projected bed requirements. This forward-thinking approach allows the State to proactively address potential overcrowding concerns, ensuring a more secure and effective correctional system.

One of the most significant aspects of the new prison is the implementation of a therapeutic community. This innovative approach provides a nurturing environment where women can receive comprehensive treatment for their addictions. By addressing the root causes of their behaviors and providing the necessary support, South Dakota aims to empower these individuals to overcome their challenges and reintegrate into society successfully.

The new facility will offer a wide range of programs designed to reduce the likelihood of recidivism. These programs focus on education, vocational training, mental health support, and life skills development. By equipping inmates with the tools they need to rebuild their lives, the aim is to break the cycle of crime and create a positive, lasting
impact on both the individuals and the community as a whole.
