Brian joined CGL after serving with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for over 22 years as a detention officer and deputy chief. He held several positions at various jail divisions within the agency and was previously the Chairman of the Maricopa County Smart Justice (Re-entry) Council consisting of multiple departments within the Maricopa County criminal justice system. Brian has been active in the reduction of recidivism in the county jail system and promoting more efficient public safety through the use of data and evidence-based practices that address criminal behavior. Brian’s hands on experience with day-to-day operations enables him to evaluate projects in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.

Brian is a Certified Jail Manager through the American Jail Association, a Certified Correctional Executive through the American Correctional Association, and a Certified Public Manager through Arizona State University.

What's your favorite CGL project you've worked on?

In my first few years at CGL, I have enjoyed working on the Salt Lake County master plan project the most as it was the first project I managed from the very beginning. I enjoy the sense and satisfaction I get out of a project when I have the opportunity to see it through from start to finish. Salt Lake County is a great client to work with and they are very forward thinking in their approach to criminal justice planning.

Which core value do you relate to the most?

‘Make It Better.’ This core value is similar to a philosophy I teach to my sons who are both Boy Scouts: ‘Leave it better than you found it.’ When you approach your life’s work this way, it really is a beautiful thing.

If you could pick one superpower - what would it be and why?

I would like the superpower of being able to freeze time at will. This function would allow me to put more thought and strategy in how I approach challenging situations, and it would allow me to catch up on rest when I need it!
