Our Expertise

The Maple Street Correctional Center, a new construction, three-story, mid-rise facility, is being built to provide replacement beds for the aging women’s facility and new transitional housing beds that are designed for both men and women. This facility will become the anchor structure for a new waterfront development being planned by Redwood City.

This new correctional center will contain inmate programming options, including a culinary training kitchen, a dog training program, and decentralized computer labs on the individual inmate pods. Also included in this facility is a focus on family visiting. The county believes that allowing incarcerated inmates to have family visitations will help break the cycle of children of inmates that are five times more likely to offend than children of non-inmates.

The facility will initially have 576 beds (including 88 non-secure transitional beds) with the capacity to be expanded to 832 beds. The project consists of 93,250 square feet of administration and support space, 20,000 square feet of transitional housing, and 139,132 square feet of detention center. A full-service kitchen, laundry, clinic, and video visitation are also included. The new jail is being referred to by the county sheriff as a place of hope.
