Our Expertise

The new Broward County Courthouse (BCC) project is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The project consists of a new Courthouse building with 730,000 SF of finished space to accommodate the needs of the Civil and Family Courts. This justice complex locates the lobby alongside a new civic plaza which links the new Courthouse with the existing East Wing.

CGL worked with County in developing the vision for this project in 2001. Working closely with County and the architects CGL developed the architectural space program for the civil and family courthouse.

The process of determining the space requirements for the 17th Judicial Circuit included an assessment of general population growth; workload of the various components of the Court; and the number of staff required to support the forecasted caseload. Judgeships were projected using various models and methods. Staff projections for Court support agencies were also generated, such as for the Clerk of Court and State Attorneys office. Other non-court related agencies staff projections were developed based on a ratio or historical trends basis.
