Brooklyn Detention Center
Our Expertise
In a move towards reestablishing a community-based jail system for pre-trial inmates, the New York City Department of Correction planned to renovate and expand the dormant Brooklyn House of Detention. Located in the heart of a lively retail/residential neighborhood, the new Brooklyn Detention Center required a design that was both operationally sound, and aesthetically pleasing.
CGLRicciGreene, in Joint Venture with 1100 Architect, was selected from among several design excellence teams to design the renovated and expanded 1,500-bed Brooklyn Detention Center. CGLRicciGreene worked closely with DOC officials to create a validated operational and architectural space program, and the Joint Venture Team generated concept studies for integrating the new and renovated spaces into one jail; and completed Schematic Design documentation.
